International Committee on Food Microbiology and Hygiene (ICFMH)
The International Committee on Food Microbiology and Hygiene (ICFMH) is an organization founded in 1953, which officially represents the International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) on matters related to food and beverages. It holds observer and advisory roles in key international activities, including those of the FAO, WHO, and ISO working groups focused on the detection and enumeration of microorganisms in food and beverages. ICFMH’s primary mission is to promote global food safety, food hygiene and control of food spoilage. The committee engages in organization of conferences, symposia, workshops, and roundtables; supporting international organizations on food microbiology issues; publishing scientific materials; and fostering education and training in food microbiology.

Brazilian Association for Food Protection (BRAFP)
BRAFP is licensed as an affiliate of the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), the entity responsible for publishing the Journal of Food Protection and Food Protection Trends. BRAFP, founded in March 2002, is a non-profit, scientific and educational civil association. Its main objectives are: (i) to promote a discussion forum for professionals in the field of food safety and quality, (ii) to assist in the professional improvement of its members through the exchange of technical and scientific information and the dissemination of information related to food safety, and (iii) to cooperate with other professional groups in the improvement and promotion of food safety. Annually, BRAFP will be promoting a technical-scientific meeting that will be attended by a member of the IAFP, as well as Brazilian professionals of recognized competence in the area of food protection.
Brazilian Society of Microbiology (SBM)
Under the leadership of Amadeu Cury and Paulo de Góes, the Rio de Janeiro branch of the Society of American Bacteriologists (SAB) was founded in 1947, which existed for about 20 years. This society was very active holding very crowded meetings. Since then, the Brazilian Society of Microbiology, now headquartered in São Paulo, has actively how to disseminate scientific knowledge in microbiology and be the scientific reference in microbiology, in its various specialties in Brazil, organize the Brazilian Congress of Microbiology every two years, editing the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology, offering Specialization and Improvement courses in Microbiology, among other activities.
